“I’ll do it”

We were shooting “This Is Our City” downtown this weekend, and were almost wrapped when some guys wandered close by. I didn’t think much of it, then I saw one SEVERELY  stumbling.

They hunkered in to stare at us for a while like cracked up creepers.

Whatever, the show must go on.

Mel and I went through the scene. Her character was trying to convince my character to go to a party I didn’t want to. It was a loud argument. There was hollering. There was screaming. There was cussing.

And we repeated it several times, all the while the day mares kept staring at us.

Mel and I really got into a good rhythm. Things were flowing well. Then, one of the Day-mares sauntered sort of behind me and said, “I’ll do it.”

He ruined our take. I asked him what he meant. He shrugged, and said, “I’ll do it.”

I didn’t know what he meant. I was not able to have a real conversation yet. I was stuck in the loop of our fake, canned one.

He then asked us if we were with the news, and I told him the sun was setting and we had to move along. He asked a few more questions, and he told him to stop asking us questions.

All the while, I thought, maybe he meant he would get on camera. Or, if we were just randomly filming people, he’d be game. You run into that all the time. People see a camera and they jokingly say, “whatever you do, don’t get me on camera!” and that translates to: oh, please film me!

It wasn’t till I got home that it occurred to me that he meant he’d go to the party with Melissa. He didn’t know that, not only was our conversation fake, but that we had exactly the same argument over-and-over.

When we packed up gear, they left. Thanks guys. Get on with those awesome life choices.
